J.D. Knap of Catskill, NY (1875-1962) was a business man with a passion for duck hunting. Artwork was a hobby one of his hunting companions urged him to begin selling his work and he became quite successful. 1) This large painting is late autumn scene of 8 Canada geese settling into a large marshy area. Lower left is signed J.D. Knap in pencil. SIZE: overall 35" x 26-1/2", sight 29" x 21" under glass. CONDITION: very fine. New frame. 2) Original watercolor winter scene of 7 Canvasbacks preparing to land in marshy border of an inlet or river. Lower left is signed J.D. Knap in white paint. SIZE: overall 28" x 22", sight 20" x 13" under glass. CONDITION: very fine. Older wood frame. PROVENANCE: From the Private Collection of Berrien Moore III. (02-25871-1/MGM). $1,200-2,500.
